The station from the outside looks actually quite nice however on the inside and it is caked in pigeon poo and litter the benches seem neglected which is a major shame because the service is decent. On the line the staff are actually pleasant and the prices are good the Railcard is a bargain For what it is however the station just seems neglected.

Whitby is very picturesque!

Nice little station with local and heritage services. Its a shame that not many trains run from this station, however, the services that do are reasonable. There is a cafe and a bar. Just a word of warning that the ticket offices can be very busy when trains are due so may be worth arriving early or buy in advance if possible.

Busy town, lovely weather, very crowded at midday when we arrived. We used park and ride service best thing to do FREE PARKING, 2.50 per adult return ticket from town or you can use a train. The town loaded with history, witnessed the Whitby harbour swing bridge open, separating sideways holding pedestrians, cyclists, cars, vans on both sides allowing tall masted boats pass. Great experience. Walked 199 steps to the ruins of the Abbey & church. Lovely views. Long pier lots of walking if you enjoy it. Paid 1.50 to go 81 steps up the lighthouse. Worth it watching the whole town.Lots of eateries cafes, restaurants, pubs. The Angel and old town for Whitby jet, accessories & jewellery. Wow not forgetting the beach. We had an awesome day.

Very interesting place, loads of history, visit the ruined Abbey and church at the top of the 199 steps, visit the old town to buy Whitby Jet, and perhaps a freshly smoked kipper, then enjoy fish and chips from Trenchers for tea. All well worth a visit.
